PARK RIDGE, ILL. – Minnesota junior right-hander Sara Moulton has been named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Moulton, a graduate of Eagan High School, was dominant in the circle at the FGCU/LaQuinta Inn at the Airport Spring Break Invitational. She started all five games for the Gophers and was 4-0 with a 0.71 ERA.
Moulton's highlights included a no-hitter versus Albany and a one-hit shutout against Florida Gulf Coast, which had lost, 2-1, to defending National Champion Alabama one week earlier.She combined to allow just eight hits and three earned runs in 29.2 IP, while striking out 42 and walking just seven. She held opposing batters to a .085 average.
For the season, Moulton is 7-4 with a 1.21 earned run average and 89 strikeouts (19 walks) in 69.2 innings in the circle. Opposing batters are batting just .152 against her, and she has allowed just two extra base hits all season.
It’s the fifth career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award for Moulton, and her first since being recognized by the conference on March 12, 2012.
Minnesota plays in another tournament this weekend, as it travels to Auburn, Ala., for the War Eagle Classic. The Gophers open the tournament against Middle Tennessee State on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. CT.
