MINNEAPOLIS – While the University of Minnesota softball team was working hard on the field and in the weight room during its offseason workouts this fall, team members continued to be dedicated in the classroom, as well.
For the fifth consecutive semester, the Golden Gopher softball team achieved a term grade point average of greater than 3.0, as it combined for a 3.379 GPA for the recently-completed fall semester.
Overall, Minnesota’s cumulative team GPA stands at 3.223, which ranks seventh-best among Minnesota’s 25 varsity sports.
The Gophers recently reported back to campus, and began practicing for the 2013 season today. Head coach Jessica Allister will take the team through full-day workouts through Friday, and again on Monday before classes resume on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
This weekend, the team will hold its annual Minnesota Softball Winter Clinics, which take place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9:00 a.m. to Noon on Sunday.
Minnesota opens its season Feb. 9-10 at the Sportco Kick-Off Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. The Gophers will face 2012 NCAA Tournament teams DePaul, Louisville, and Texas Tech at the tournament, as well as host UNLV.
