Minnesota sophomore Kendyl Lindaman found her name amongst the 56 athletes to accept an invitation to participate in the 2018 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp
Minnesota softball saw 11 of its current and former student-athletes receive 2016-17 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Tuesday.
2017 • FRESHMAN SEASON
Started 61 games at catcher • broke school records for home runs (20), slugging percentage (.899), RBI (tied-76), walks (63), on base percentage (.598) • hit a team and Big Ten leading .426 and finished third in the NCAA in on base percentage, tied for third in RBI, fourth in slugging percentage and seventh in home runs • named a NFCA First-Team All-American • named the Big Ten Player and Freshman of the year. Became the fourth player in Big Ten softball history to earn both honors in the same season • set a Big Ten record by earning eight Freshman of the Week plaudits and also earned Big Ten Player of the Week once • was the Big Ten’s first ever NFCA Freshman of the Year top-3 finalist • named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team • picked up NFCA Great Lakes All-Region first-team accolades • was a first-team All-Big Ten selection • also named to the Big Ten all-defensive team • saw action in first collegiate game and received her first career start at catcher in game versus Maryland where she had 11 putouts • added three hits including her first career home run, scored three runs and had one RBI in two games versus Texas • added two runs, three hits, and one RBI against Colorado State • established two home runs, two runs, three hits and two RBIs in two games against Notre Dame • tacked on one hit and nine putouts in a pair of games against North Carolina State • recorded two runs and three hits, including a triple in two wins over UC Davis • established her fourth home run of the season against Cal Poly • had two runs, two hits with one double and four RBIs, in a five inning win over Idaho State • launched a three run home run against FAU • added one hit and one run in win over No. 13/12 LSU • recorded two runs, one RBI and 12 putouts in a pair of games versus Seattle • in two games against No. 8/8 Washington she added three hits, two RBIs and nine putouts • notched one run, one hit and two RBIs in a win over South Dakota at the Husky Classic • tacked on one run, two hits including a home run and two RBIs against Oregon State • contributed one run, one hit, and nine putouts against No. 23/20 California • established two runs, three hits including a home run and four RBIs in two wins against Pacific • over three games against Nebraska, established two hits and one home run, scored two runs, six RBIs, and 21 putouts • added four runs, two home runs including a grand slam and had eight RBIs against Illinois • in two games against South Dakota, she tallied two home runs, five RBIs and scored three runs • produced three runs, one hit and one home run with three RBIs in three games against Indiana • tallied one run, three hits and three RBIs in a series against Northwestern • had two runs, two hits, and two RBIs along with 19 putouts in a doubleheader against Wisconsin • tied the single season home run record as she hit her 15th home run against Iowa • broke the single season home run record against NDSU with her 16th of the year • added two more home runs against Purdue along with five runs and eight RBIs • closed out regular season Big Ten play with five runs, two hits, and four RBIs in three game against Penn State • launched her 20th home run of the season, which was a grand slam, against Illinois in the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament • gave the Gophers a lead in the ninth inning of an NCAA Tournament elimination game against La Tech with an RBI double.
A 2016 graduate of Ankeny Centennial High School • also played basketball where she was a three-time All-Conference and was a 2015 5A State Champion • holds her high school track shot put record • earned five letters in softball • held a .516 batting average, 1.041 SLG%, .676 OBP, 71 home runs, 220 BB, 194 RBI • only had 23 strike outs in 695 plate appearances • five-time All-Conference member • four time All-District member • named to All-State first team four times •selected to play in the PGF High School All-American game in 2016 • three time Iowa 5A Player of the Year • holds the Iowa High School All-Time home run record with 71 • also played for the Iowa Premier 18U Gold.
From Ankeny, Iowa • says her most memorable sports thrills were winning the state championship in softball in 2012 and basketball in 2016 • daughter of Trent and Sara Lindaman • has one sister, Taryn (15) • born June 24, 1998.
