The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) named three University of Minnesota soccer players to the Academic All-District team today. Forward April Bockin along with midfielders Emily Heslin and Molly Fiedler were named to the teams for their outstanding accomplishments both in the classroom and on the field.
Minnesota’s three representatives is the most by any one team in District six, with two of the three midfielders being Gophers. This is the first time any of the three have been honored by CoSIDA.
A captain this season, Heslin was also performing in the classroom. She holds a 3.73 cumulative grade point average, while focusing on Marketing, Finance or Accounting. She started all 17 games this season for the Gophers, scored three goals and added a pair of assists. She more than doubled her career goals this season as a defensive midfielder. She has received awards such as the Ironwoman Award, Big Ten All-Tournament team and scored the game-winner last season in the Big Ten Tournament championship game over Rutgers.
An Eden Prairie native, Bockin finished with a 3.71 grade point average while studying Kinesiology. She led the Gophers in assists with 12, which also ties her for most in the nation. Her 12 assists ties her for third most in a single-season at Minnesota. She has 20 assists in her three seasons at Minnesota, which ties her for eighth most in program-history. This season she registered four assists, which tied a Big Ten and program record, in a 7-1 win over Michigan State. Bockin was also named Third Team All-Big Ten this season.
Studying psychology, Fiedler has earned a 3.67 cumulative grade point average in her three years in the Gophers soccer program. She has started every game since she stepped on to the campus in the Twin Cities, putting her at 62 for her career. She has 17 career assists, just three away from top eight all-time at Minnesota. She has registered seven assists in each of the last two seasons, and was named Second Team All-Big Ten this season.
