The Minnesota Golden Gophers traveled to Michigan in order to play Big Ten opponents Michigan State and Michigan over the weekend. 

On Friday afternoon, the Gophers were defeated by Michigan State 3-0. While Minnesota outshot the Spartans 21-13, the Gophers were unable to score an equalizer and utimately fell after 90 minutes of play in East Lansing, Mich. [Recap Here]

Sunday was a different story for the Golden Gophers. After starting the Big Ten with two losses, Minnesota was looking for their first conference win of the season. The Gophers came out strong and in the 37th minute, transfer Olivia Schultz was able to score the Gophers. Minnesota was able to hold the lead over the Wolverines and found themselves upsetting No. 13 Michigan in a 1-0 shutout. [Recap Here]

The split weekend in Michigan allowed the Gophers to improve their overall record to 8-3-0 on the season (1-2-0 Big Ten). [Big Ten Standings Here]

After three weeks on the road, the Gophers return home to "Rock the Robbie." Minnesota will host the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday evening at 7 p.m. CST. The Buckeyes are also coming off of a split weekend after topping Indiana, 3-1, last Thursday and being defeated by Purdue, 1-0, on Sunday. Nichelle Prince is leading the Buckeyes with six goals and four assists (14 points). She scored most recently in the match against Indiana. She is also leading the team in shots with 40. Ohio State is 7-2-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in Big Ten Play. [Purdue vs Ohio State Recap Here]

The No. 7 Nittany Lions are on the road for the first time this conference season. Penn State travels to Wisconsin and Minnesota after a successful Big Ten weekend. The Nittany Lions defeated both Purdue, 6-1, and Indiana, 4-1. The Lions were able to have five different goalscorers in the match against Purdue. Raquel Rodriguez, Maya Hayes and Tani Costa, who scored in the Purdue match, were also about to tally one each for Penn State against Indiana. Ohio State

The Buckeyes hold an 11-9-2 lead in the all-time series. The are undefeated in the last four meetings between the two teams. Last year the Gophers lost to Ohio State in overtime. [2012 Recap Here]

Penn State

The Penn State Nittany Lions lead the all-time series 20-3-0. Last year, Penn State defeated the Gophers 4-3 last season. The last time PSU was defeated by the Golden Gophers was Oct. 21, 2007 when they fell 1-0 in double overtime. [2012 Recap Here]

Freshman goalkeeper, Tarah Hobbs, has stepped up in a big way for the Golden Gophers. Through eight games, Hobbs has tallied 41 saves. Currently she ranks first in the Big Ten in Saves Per Game with a 5.12 average. Hobbs had two consecutive games with nine saves (Indiana/Michigan State) and then she recorded five saves int he match against Michigan this past Sunday. [Big Ten Statistics]

With the reputation of being a tough home team, the Golden Gophers are looking to take advantage of their ten home games this fall. Last weekend, the Gophers had two victories at home bringing their overall record on their home pitch to 126-51-12. Minnesota looks to extend that home win count when they meet Ohio State and Penn State at home this weekend.

Students who want to support Gopher Soccer but do not have a car are in luck as the soccer student shuttle will continue throughout the remainder of the season. The shuttle will pick up in front of Mariucci Arena on the west side of Oak Street (between Mariucci Arena and TCF Bank Stadium.) Friday's pick up times are 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff with drop off after the game. Sunday's pick up times are 12:00 and 12:30 p.m. for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff with drop off after the game. Maps can be found on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
