This weekend marked our Big Ten opener. It was an exciting series of games for us as it was finally our chance for redemption from last season. Friday night we came from behind to defeat the University of Michigan 2-1. After a half we dominated, we still found ourselves in a 1-0 deficit. There was no panic at halftime as Katie Bethke and Kelly Wepking scored goals for us in the second half to put us in the lead and get us our first Big Ten win.
Sunday we took on Michigan State. It was pouring off and on during the entire 90 minutes we played, but we took care of business. The final score was 2-0, as Clare Grimwood and Kelly Wepking both notched goals for us. This win gave us the sweep for the weekend. It was a great way to start off our conference season!
After our disheartening and disappointing Big Ten season last year, our team has been waiting for this opening weekend ever since. No one wants to go down the way we did last year, so being able to start off our Big Ten season this year the way we did feels so good. It felt amazing to get two wins this weekend against two quality teams. It just shows how much work our team has put in over the past year and how bad we really want it!
There is no easy game in our conference. Every game is a battle. Preparation for every game is going to be a must. Every single game is a fight and this year we’re fighting like we never have before! Next Friday we take on Illinois in Champagne and there is no Sunday game. Thanks for all of your support so far this year!
