LAST WEEK IN GOPHER SOCCER
The Minnesota Golden Gophers opened the Big Ten season against Indiana in Bloomington, Ind. last Saturday evening. In a close match, the Gophers were edged by Indiana in the second half as freshman veronica Ellis was able to find the net against Minnesota goalkeeper, Tarah Hobbs. Steph Brandt and Haley Helverson both recorded two shots during the match but were unable to finish the scoring oppportunity to tie the game.
With this loss, the Gophers fell to 7-2-0 on the season (0-1-0 Big Ten) and the Hooisers were able to remain unbeaten with an 8-0-1 overall record (1-0-0 Big Ten). [Recap Here]
THIS WEEK IN GOPHER SOCCER
The Golden Gophers will hit the road for another weekend of Big Ten play. They will first meet Michigan State on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT. The Gophers will then head to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE
The Spartans started off their Big Ten season with a 1-0 loss to Nebraska on Sept. 19. Allyson Kruse, Megan Marsak and Kristen Evans all attempted to even the score but ultimately the Spartans were left scoreless on the game. Mary-Kat Fiebernitz and Jessica White currently leading the Spartans in goals with three each. Michigan State is 6-1-2 on the season and 0-1-0 in the Big Ten heading into Friday's match against the Gophers. Last year, the Gophers were able to top the Spartans 1-0 at home. The No. 13 Wolverines were able to take down unbeaten Iowa in their Big Ten Opener on Sept. 22 in Iowa City, Iowa. The Wolverines were lead by Nkem Ezurike and Kayala Mannino who both recorded a goal and an assist on the game. Ezurike nedds four goals to become the all-time scoring leader for Michigan. The Wolverines are 7-1-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in the Big Ten. They will take on No. 18 Wisconsin on Friday before the match against the Gophers on Sunday. Last year, Ezurike was able to score the lone goal of the match between Michigan and Minnesota, allowing the Wolverines a victory. [Michigan vs Iowa Recap Here]
The first edition of RPI was released on Monday. The Gophers were ranked 17th while Michigan was just inches ahead at 16th. The full RPI can be found here.

DEFENDING THE ROBBIE
With the reputation of being a tough home team, the Golden Gophers are looking to take advantageof their ten home games this fall. Last weekend, the Gophers had two victories at home bringing their overall record on their home pitch to 126-51-12. Minnesota looks to extend that home win count when they meet Ohio State and Penn State at home in October.

RETURNING TO THE ROBBIE
The Gophers will spend the rest of September on the road but when the Gophers return to the Robbie the first weekend of October to take on Big Ten opponents Ohio State and Penn State, the Robbie will be rocking.

STUDENT SOCCER SCHEDULE
Students who want to support Gopher Soccer but do not have a car are in luck as the soccer student shuttle will continue throughout the remainder of the season. The shuttle will pick up in front of Mariucci Arena on the west side of Oak Street (between Mariucci Arena and TCF Bank Stadium.) Friday's pick up times are 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff with drop off after the game. Sunday's pick up times are 12:30 and 1:00 p.m. for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff with drop off after the game. Maps can be found on our Facebook and Twitter pages. The next home game is October 4 against Ohio State.
