Throughout the 2007 Minnesota Soccer season, gophersports.com will regularly post web "diary" entry from Golden Gophers Sara Johnson and Kaitlin Wagner. Today, Kaitlin tells how the team has been preparing for this weekend's home opener at the Gopher Invitational.
This is our first weekend home and we are so excited to host the Gopher Invitational! We have done so much to promote our game on Friday night. One thing in particular that we did was make a video that we posted on the internet at various student websites. You can find it by clicking here. It is a short video compilation of the tricks we have up our sleeves and this weekend you guys get a chance to see them all!
This weekend we also have invited all of our incoming recruits for the 2008 season. It is a great time for the team to get to know the future Gophers. We usually have dinner and try to catch another sporting event to support other Gopher student-athletes.
Training this week has been excellent. We are doing all we can to get ready for this weekend. Again, both teams we play are going to be good tests for us. We played Dayton my freshman season (2005). It was the first game of my collegiate career and I was really nervous. With a couple years of experience under my belt the nerves have gone away. My attitude before games is to play as hard as I can, have fun, and leave all of my energy out on the field! The girls on the team know that my line’ is “leave it all out on the field, there is nothing to save your energy for.” I say this because we have all of Saturday to recover for our game on Sunday, and then we go out and do it all over!
What is so nice about being at the University of Minnesota is the feeling of community and the support we get from our fans. The best atmosphere to play in is when the stadium is packed! Hope to see you all at the game on Friday night! Go Gophers!
Thanks Kaitlin! Be sure to come out and watch the Gophers this weekend at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium and check back next week for more Gopher updates!
