Three Minnesota soccer players - Katie Bethke, Lindsey Schwartz and Kaitlin Wagner - were named to the 2007 Lady Vol Classic All-Tournament Team this weekend. The Golden Gophers dropped two close matches in the second annual tournament, falling 2-1 to Central Florida on Friday afternoon and narrowly missed an upset on Sunday, losing 1-0 to tournament champion Tennessee.
Bethke had five shots on the weekend and two on goal, including four and one during Friday's match-up with the Knights. The Eau Claire native was also instrumental in the Gophers' school-record 18 corner kick effort on Friday.
Schwartz scored the team's lone goal on the weekend Friday and had a team-high eight shots overall, including three on goal. Wagner contributed six shots of her own and two on goal during the two-game stretch.
The Gophers return to action this Friday in Hanover, N.H. when they take on Providence College at the Dartmouth Tournament at 4:30 p.m. Minnesota will square off with host Dartmouth on Sunday before returning home Sept. 14-16 for the Gopher Invitational.
