The University of Minnesota Golden Gopher soccer team fell to Big Ten opponent Northwestern, 1-0, at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Illinois.
The Gophers were unable to rally after Northwestern University scored two unanswered goals to pick up their first Big Ten win of the year.
The Gophers were outshot 19-6 as the Wildcats were able to pick up two goals. The first was scored by Katie Landgrebe nearing the end of the first half. Then, in the 79th minute, Addie Steiner was able to tally her first career goal for the Wildcats off of Allen. Allen had two assists for Northwestern.
With the 2-0 loss to Northwestern, the Gophers move to 9-4-1 on the season and 2-3-1 in Big Ten Play. The Wildcats pick up their first Big Ten win and move to 3-9-2 and 1-5-0 in the conference.
GOPHER STAND OUT PERFORMANCES
Despite the outcome, freshman goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs racked up another seven save game for the Golden Gophers. Hobbs, with 62 saves on the season, was leading the Big Ten in save percentage and saves per game before the contest with Northwestern. Hobbs was able to combat the 19 shots with 9 of them being shots on goal.
Last weekend, Hobbs performance earned her Big Ten honors. This is her third consecutive game with seven saves for the Gophers.
The Gophers will return home to Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium for the last home two-game weekend of the regular season. The Gophers will host Iowa on Friday evening with a slated 7 p.m. kick off. The Gophers will then host Nebraska for Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
