"I decided to commit to Minnesota because it seems like a great fit for me both academically and athletically. Growing up in Minnesota, the Gophers have always had a presence in my life, so now to be a part of it is something very special. I like that Minnesota is a Division I school and part of the Big Ten Conference. It's always been a dream of mine to be able to play at the highest level, and I think that this program has excellent coaches and players that are looking to do great things."

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT MARA...
"Mara has probably been the hardest working goalie that we have ever had. I cannot ever recall a goalie who wanted to do shooting drills almost every single practice. When I would politely ask her not to dive in some drills she would do so for about two shots then make a diving save and respond by saying, `I'm sorry I did not mean it!!' For her, more was clearly better. She has everything you could ask for. She is athletic, one of the best divers we have had. She has great hands, as sure-handed as we have produced. She is fearless and will challenge for any ball in her goal area. She has a great leg with a strong kick, whether on the ground or punting out of her hands. She is tenacious. She wants to win at all costs even if it is just a sprint at the end of practice. Above all, she was a fantastic mentor and role model to all of our goalies and showed them what can be accomplished with hard work. She is what I would say is a blue print on how to become an All-State Goalie." - Tony Peszneker, Wayzata High School Soccer Coach
"Mara Dougherty is an exceptional Goalkeeper. She is blessed with all the "tools" that this demanding position requires. She is strong, athletic, quick, and has "cat-like" reflexes. Mara is mentally tough and has that special ability to respond well when the pressure is on. The bigger the game, the better she plays. She comes by her success because of her amazing work ethic. Mara is a true leader and well-respected by her peers and coaches. The Gophers are getting a first class student-athlete and a young woman with great character." - Christopher K. Laird, Plymouth Soccer Club Coach
"Mara has a tremendous work rate and athletic ability. She is a confident shot stopper and does not shy away from pressure situations. We are really looking forward to her continued growth and contributions as a Gopher." - Minnesota Head Coach Stefanie Golan
