Braak Named Rowing MVP at Annual Team Banquet

Just days before the University of Minnesota women's rowing team heads to the 2013 B1G Rowing Championships, the Golden Gophers held their annual team banquet Sunday morning in the DQ Club Room at TCF Bank Stadium. There it was announced that sophomore Rebecca Braak was named Minnesota rowing's Most Valuable Athlete.

Currently ranked No. 20 in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll and coming off a big win over No. 14 Wisconsin, the Gophers and Braak are set to compete at the B1G Rowing Championships Sunday, May 19 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind.

Ali Haws was awarded the Donna J Olson Unsung Hero Award at the banquet, while Elisabeth Bott was named the Maroon and Gold's Most Improved Rower of the 2012-13 season.

Lisa Weeks garnered Most Valuable Novice Rower accolades and fellow rookie Sophia Pulice was named Minnesota's Most Improved Novice Rower.

Captains for the 2013-14 season were also named at the annual event, with Chelsea Miller and Katherine Windsor set to take over the reins next season.

Jesse Flakne, Haws, Miller, Emilie Sabourin and Rachel Sartor created a video commemorating the 2012-13 season, which was shown at the banquet.
