GOPHERS AND HAWKEYES SET TO BATTLE ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER
The University of Minnesota rowing team will host the Iowa Hawkeyes, Sunday, April 9th on the U of M campus. The scrimmages are scheduled for a 9 a.m. start in front of the U of M Boathouse, which is located along East River Parkway and in the East River Flats Park. The race marks the first Big Ten competition for both teams this spring.

RACE FORMAT
The Gophers and Hawkeyes will compete in four 700-meter pieces, with following current, in front of the boathouse. Eight Minnesota boats will be competing: First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity First, Second and Four boats and First, Second and Third Novice Eights. All Varsity Four boats will compete together, with a rotation between the Second and Third Varsity Four boats. Unlike duals at Lake Phalen, there will be no on-water announcing of the scrimmages.

GOPHER LINEUPS
Minnesota will have its full roster competing in this week's scrimmage. All lineups are subject to change. Minnesota's First Varsity Eight will consist of coxswain Megan Flannery, Laura Jatautaite, Mary Ann Weinzierl, Jenny Barnes, Ashley Vilmo, Stephanie Bakkum, Lucy Mulvey, Katie Johnson and Lisa Pugh at bow. In the Second Varsity Eight, Minnesota will have Linnea Trandem, Emily Baxter, Tina Cho, Jenna Schuder, Katie Simpson, Erin Desmond, Sarah Graham, Lauren Van Proosdy and Christine O'Donnell at bow. In the First Varsity Four is coxswain Erica Niemiec, Jessica Veit, Sarah Krueger, Ali Fisher and Emily Johnson. Competing in the 2V4 is Monika Folker, Michele Peterson, Kathryn Switalski, Michelle Murphy and Jess Norman at bow. In the Gophers' 3V4 is Rebecca Emmons, Christine Cira, Brenna Galvin, Katelyn Nichols and Megan Lenarz. In First Novice Eight action is coxswain Dana Landseidel, Kristin Haag, Kate Ladell, Alyssa Kast, Molly Kalmoe, Shannon Gates, Tracy Merth, Liz Gruse and Teresa Logemann. In the 2N8 is Kate Stadum, Ann Haberman, Sarah Paschke, Mikaela Rogers, Alex Gregory, Jessica Mayers, Katherine Foster, Dani Prestegard and Carrie Gahr at bow. In the 3N8 is Jessica Tam, Chonquita Jones, Melinda Brown, Carly Schulz, Vanessa Hamer, Kristi Sroka, Randi Schroeder and Sara Swenson.

ABOUT THE HAWKEYES
Iowa competed in the Longhorn Invitational last weekend, including four wins on the final day. The Hawkeyes swept Kansas State in the novice and the varsity eight races. Following the scrimmage against Minnesota, Iowa will head out the the George Washington Invite, April 11-12 in Washington, D.C. Head coach Mandi Kowal is in her 14th year at the helm of the Iowa rowing program.

ON THE DOCKET
Minnesota is idle next week, but returns to action on April 19 when they host Michigan, Michigan State and Louisville at Lake Phalen. The Gophers and Louisville will each face Michigan and Michigan State, but not each other. The Gophers will also compete at Lake Phalen the following week when Kansas comes to town, April 26th.
