Minnesota's First Varsity Eight Earns Second Big Ten Honor
The Gophers' First Varsity Eight earned its second Big Ten weekly honor of the season.

March 26, 2013

The University of Minnesota rowing team's First Varsity Eight was named the Big Ten Boat of the Week for the second time this season following its outing at Tennessee last weekend, the league office announced Tuesday morning.

The 1V8 of coxswain Emilie Sabourin, Christine Beauparlant, Cassie Drozynski, Ali Haws, Rebecca Braak, Lynn Hodnett, Katherine Windsor, Becky Kinchen and Rachel Sartor won its fourth-straight race of the season against the Lady Vols, posting a time of 6:23.0 to defeat the hosts by 13.5 seconds.

The Gophers have yet to lose a race in 2013, as they have defeated First Varsity Eight squads from Kansas State, Oklahoma, Tulsa and Tennessee.

Minnesota's varsity squad will be back in action April 13 when it opens the Big Ten season at Iowa.
