IOWA CITY, Iowa – Minnesota rowing wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule with an impressive showing in the Women’s Varsity 8+ at the Head of the Iowa, as the Gophers’ A and B boats finished first and second, respectively.
Minnesota’s A boat of coxswain Taylor Gainey, Katherine Windsor, Lynn Hodnett, Elisabeth Bott, Ellen Hughes, Sarah Sobek, Sara Scarbro, Lisa Weeks, and Chelsea Miller finished comfortably ahead of the field in first place with a time of 14:04.991.
The Gophers’ B boat of coxswain Rachael Rogers, Tabitha Andelin, Jen Kohl, Kylie Andersen, Rebecca Braak, Brianna Boileau, Madison Koch, Catherine Ahrens, and Nicolette Marquardt finished second in 14:13.317, a few seconds ahead of Iowa’s A, B and C boats.
In the Women’s Varsity 4+, Minnesota’s C boat of coxswain Breanna TenEyck, Jaime Friscia, Mari Sundbo, Kjerstin Meyer, and Kersten Schwanz captured second place in 15:41.541, while Minnesota’s A boat of coxswain Meredith Kelly, Ellen Hughes, Lynn Hodnett, Katherine Windsor, and Lisa Weeks was third in 15:49.080.
The Gophers also had three entires in the Women’s Novice 8+, with Minnesota’s A boat winning in 15:47.701 and its B boat taking third in 16:17.558.
World Rowing U-23 Championships begin Wednesday
