Seniors Ali Haws and Cassie Drozynskiposted a time of 21:17.05 to win the title in the Women's Collegiate 2- event Sunday morning as the University of Minnesota rowing team's varsity squad competed in the Head of the Rock regatta in Rockford, Ill.
The Gophers also had two boats take part in the Collegiate Women 4+ later in the day, with the Varsity 4A boat of Rachael Rogers, Katherine Windsor, Kayla Thom, Lynn Hodnett and Ellen Hughes finishing sixth overall with a time of 19:00.86. The Varsity 4B boat of Taylor Gainey, Jaime Friscia, Alexandria Voss, Erica Revering and Amy VanHeel placed 12th with a time of 19:36.77.
Three varsity 8+ boats were scheduled to compete in the afternoon session for Minnesota, but the races were cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Gophers will conclude their fall season at the Head of the Iowa on Oct. 28.
World Rowing U-23 Championships begin Wednesday
