The University of Minnesota women's rowing team put together an impressive showing at the Clemson Invite Saturday on Lake Hartwell, which included a first-place finish from the Gophers' Second Varsity Eight and a second-place finish from the First Varsity Eight.
Minnesota began competition Saturday morning with the First Varsity Eight placing fourth against teams from No. 18 Louisville, No. 3 Virginia, No. 4 Ohio State, Oklahoma and UCF with a time of 6:40.3. Virginia won the race in 6:24.1, followed by Ohio State and Louisville in the top three.
The Second Varsity Eight followed with another fourth-place finish, clocking a time of 6:46.8 to finish ahead of Louisville and UCF. The First Varsity Four was also scheduled to compete in the morning session, but members of the boat were delayed heading out of Minneapolis.
The Maroon and Gold only got better in the afternoon session, with the 2V8 placing first against Indiana, Michigan State, Louisville, Tennessee and Rhode Island with a time of 6:31.7, and the 1V8 placing second with a time of 6:26.3. The 1V4 posted a time of 7:36.7 to place sixth in its first event of the day.
The event concludes for the Gophers Sunday morning with the 1V8 starting the morning session at 7:14 a.m. vs. Texas, Ohio State, UCLA, Oregon State and UCF. The 2V8 will get underway at 7:35 a.m. and the 1V4 at 7:56 a.m.

World Rowing U-23 Championships begin Wednesday
Anna Cruse and Team USA will compete at next week's 2017 World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria as entries were finalized this week.
