SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Gopher Rowing had another successful trip to southern California as the team competed in a scrimmage with San Diego State on Saturday at Mission Bay.
While official scores and times were not released from the event, which featured a number of four-minute pieces, head coach Wendy Davis was proud of the team’s performance after the event.
“We had a good time out on the water,” said Davis. “Everyone stepped up and performed. Our boats were very even. When we had a 1v and a 2v out on the water, the 2v did not let the 1v get too far ahead. Both teams kept the rate low, and we showed great discipline. When we said race at 26, they did a nice job of maintaining that 26.”
While the experience will help Minnesota as the team prepares for the remainder of the season, Davis was thankful for the Aztecs providing the competition to allow her team to prove its mettle. “We had fun. San Diego State were great hosts.”
The Gophers will next be in competition at the Louisville Invite in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on March 17-18.
