University of Minnesota women's hockey freshman Hannah Brandt was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week on Wednesday for the fifth time this season. Brandt assisted the Golden Gophers in sweeping Bemidji State by tallying three points on the weekend (1g-2a).
In the opening game of the series, Brandt got the Minnesota offense going by rebounding a Megan Bozek shot in the second period and finding the back of the net at the 10:22 mark. She came back on Saturday to assist line mate Amanda Kessel on two of her three goals (first and third goal). The Hill-Murray graduate produced a plus/minus ratio of +3 on the weekend.
Brandt has received the WCHA Rookie of the Week five times this season, along with being named the WCHA Player of the Month last week by the American Hockey Coaches Association. The highly-skilled freshman has 48 points (19g-29a) on the year and is second in the country in scoring only to Kessel.
The Maroon & Gold have finished the first half of the 2012-13 season with a perfect 20-0-0 record. They now take a month off before returning to action on Jan. 11 against North Dakota.
