MINNEAPOLIS – Senior center Sarah Davis (Paradise, N.L.) has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Offensive Player of the Week after leading No. 1 Minnesota to a road sweep over St. Cloud State last weekend.
The assistant captain recorded a career series-best five points on three goals and two assists as the Gophers topped the Huskies in WCHA action, 4-1 and 4-3. Named the First Star of the Game both days, Davis finished the weekend with three goals on seven shots, a +4 plus/minus rating, and won 22 of 38 face-offs.
Last Saturday, Davis was on the ice for all four Gopher goals in the come-from-behind 4-3 victory. She scored Minnesota’s first two goals, a power-play tally at 3:56 and an even-strength goal at 6:45 of the second period, to tie the score at 2-2 after the Gophers trailed 2-0. Davis then assisted Minnesota’s third goal, which tied the score at 3-3 with 2:02 remaining in the third period, and was on the ice for the game-winner with 1:09 to play. Davis finished the game with four shots, 11 face-off wins and a +2 rating, and she blocked one shot by the Huskies.
Davis also led the Gophers with two points in Minnesota’s 4-1 win on Friday. She scored the Gophers’ first goal in the sixth minute of the game and assisted the team’s third tally. Davis registered three shots, won 11 face-offs and was +2 for the game.
Davis is now on a four-game point streak. She is tied for fifth in the WCHA with 14 points (7g-7a) in 12 games, and her seven-goal output is tied for third in the league.
