Defending Champs Voted Unanimous Preseason No. 1
Minnesota returns 15 letterwinners from last season.

Sept. 18, 2012

USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine released their 2012-13 women's college hockey preseason poll on Tuesday morning, and the University of Minnesota will kick off the season as the unanimous number one.

The Golden Gophers received all 19 first-place votes after going 34-5-2 last winter and winning the NCAA national championship. The University of Wisconsin, who the Maroon & Gold defeated in last year's title game, was tagged second in the poll. Cornell University and Boston College, who both made it to the 2012 Women's Frozen Four, round out the top four.

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) led all conferences with four teams ranked in the Top 10 while the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hockey had three.

On Monday afternoon, the Gophers were also named the unanimous number one team in the country by USCHO.com.

Minnesota begins their quest for back-to-back NCAA titles on Sept. 28 and 29 as they play host to Colgate to open the 2012-13 season.
