MINNEAPOLIS -- The back-to-back defending national champion Gopher women’s hockey team is excited to announce the team’s promotions calendar for the 2016-17 season. Fans can look forward to special events, promotions and giveaways at home games.
The 2016-17 promotional calendar includes the return of several fan favorites, such as Skate with the Gophers (Jan. 21) and the teddy bear toss (Nov. 27). Additions to the promotions calendar include Pokémon Go Night (Oct. 14) and Halloween with the Gophers (Oct. 28).
The Gophers will celebrate the program’s 2016 NCAA national championship during their home opener on Friday, Sept. 30. Minnesota hosts Lindenwood, and the team will hold a pregame banner-raising ceremony.
On Thursday, Oct. 27, the Gophers will hold Student Night for University of Minnesota students as part of the Gopher Athletics Student Tour when the team hosts St. Cloud State.
Minnesota’s Teddy Bear Toss is set for Sunday, Nov. 27, when the team hosts Bemidji State. Fans are invited to bring stuffed animals to donate to Gopher Athletics’ annual toy drive by throwing the stuffed animals on the ice when the first Gopher goal is scored.
The annual Skate with the Gophers event will follow Minnesota’s game against Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 21. Children in eighth grade and under are invited to skate with the team after the game. Registration for Skate with the Gophers will be available soon.
Minnesota closes out its regular season by hosting Wisconsin for the Border Battle on Saturday, Feb. 18 and Sunday, Feb. 19. Fans should wear gold as part of the Gold Out on Feb. 18 to receive a $1 ticket. On Feb. 19, the team will honor seniors Dani Cameranesi, Kelsey Cline, Paige Haley, Kate Schipper, Megan Wolfe, and Lee Stecklein.
Minnesota will host two exhibition games against the Minnesota Whitecaps on Sept. 23 and Jan. 6; both games will be free to the public.
The Gophers will once again offer the Gopher Women's Hockey Youth VIP Season Pass, which provides girls and boys in eighth grade or under with free admission to all regular season Gopher women's hockey games at Ridder Arena. Registration will be available soon at GopherSports.com.
