MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota women's hockey seniors Sydney Baldwin and Caitlin Reilly will remain teammates for the 2018-19 season as both of them have signed with the EHV Vienna Sabres and will continue their hockey careers in Vienna, Austria.
Baldwin and Reilly each signed one-year contracts with the Sabres. The team plays in the Elite Women’s Hockey League (EWHL), consisting of teams from Austria, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, and Slovakia, and the Sabres lead the league with five EWHL titles. The Sabres also compete in the Austrian Women's Hockey League and are 15-time national champions since becoming a team in 1999.
Baldwin and Reilly are joined by Blair Parent, a native of Blaine, Minn., who played for Providence for four years, to make up the Sabres' most recent signees.
Baldwin wrapped up her Gophers career ranked second on the team with 32 points (12g-20a) in 38 games played during the 2017-18 season. She was named a CCM/AHCA First Team All-American, WCHA Player off the Year, and WCHA Defensive Player of the Year. Baldwin had an outstanding senior season for the Gophers, during which she earned All-WCHA First Team honors and a Patty Kazmaier top-10 finalist nod. Baldwin also took home four WCHA Defensive Player of the Month awards. She ended her career tied for seventh among all-time Gopher defense with 24 career goals and tied for 10th among all-time Gopher defense with 81 career points. A native of Minnetonka, Minn., Baldwin is set to graduate from the University of Minnesota with a double major in health services management and human resources development.
Reilly wrapped up her three-year career with the Gophers by ranking fifth on the team with a career-high 26 points (9g-17a) in 37 games played as a senior this season. She was tied for the team lead with eight multi-point games. Reilly was honored as an All-WCHA Second Team member. After beginning her college career by spending her freshman year at Penn State, Reilly transferred to the University of Minnesota as a sophomore and went on to play in 108 career games for the Gophers while recording 51 career points (22g-29a). Reilly will graduate from Minnesota with a degree in communications.
