U.S. College Hockey Online announced its All-USCHO teams for the 2011-12 season, which include three Gopher players. Forward Amanda Kessel and defenseman Megan Bozek were named to the first team, while goalie Noora Raty was named to the second team. In addition, forward Jen Schoullis was an honorable mention player, while defenseman Rachel Ramsey was an honorable mention player for the All-Rookie team.
Amanda Kessel led the Gophers in scoring this season with 80 points on 32 goals and 48 assists, ranking fourth nationally in points per game. She became the second-highest scoring sophomore in program history, and ranks third in the Minnesota record books for points in a season. Kessel was a second-team All-WCHA honoree, and a second-team All-American this season. She also earned Academic All-WCHA honors and was a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award.
Junior Megan Bozek led the Gopher defensemen in scoring in 2011-12, scoring 15 goals and 27 assists for 42 points. Nationally, Bozek had the second-highest point total for the season, and ranked third in points per game. In the Minnesota record book, she ranks fourth in scoring by a defenseman with 89 career points after three seasons. She was a first-team All-WCHA award winner, and a first-team All-American. Bozek was a Patty Kazmaier Award nominee this season.
Noora Räty compiled a 34-5-2 record in goal for the Gophers during the season, surpassing her own school record for wins in a season by nine wins (she had 25 wins in 2010-11). She set the school records for shutouts with 10 on the season, and 26 for her career. In seven postseason games, Räty allowed only five goals. She led the nation in goals against average with a 1.35. She was a third-team All-WCHA award winner, and earned Academic All-WCHA honors. Bozek was a Patty Kazmaier Award nominee this season.
The Gophers finished the 2011-12 season with a record of 35-5-2, winning the WCHA Final Face-off title, and the NCAA Championship.
Kessel and Bozek will play for Team USA while Räty will play for Team Finland at the 2012 IIHF World Championships April 7-14 in Burlington, Vt.
