MINNEAPOLIS – Sophomore goaltender Amanda Leveille has earned her third Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Defensive Player of the Week award, collecting the honor this week after backstopping Minnesota to a road sweep over North Dakota last weekend.
Leveille allowed just two goals in two games and stopped 48 of 50 shots on goal for a .960 save percentage to help the No. 1 Gophers sweep No. 3/4 North Dakota. The victories extended Minnesota's NCAA-record road winning streak to 42 games, dating back to a 3-0 win at Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 14, 2012.
Leveille made 31 saves on 32 shots before a UND-record 5,835 fans at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Friday’s 5-1 win and stopped 17 of 18 shots in Saturday’s 3-1 win. She held North Dakota scoreless on three power-play opportunities, stopping two power-play shots by UND.
One of the nation's top goaltenders, Leveille ranks fourth in the nation and third among WCHA goaltenders nationally with both a 1.12 goals against average and a .950 save percentage for the season. She is second in the nation and leads the league with nine shutouts.
In just her sophomore season, Leveille has already made her mark in the Gopher recordbooks. She currently ranks fifth in career shutouts (12) and ninth in career saves (671). She is sixth in goaltender career wins (29).
Leveille and the Gophers return to Ridder Arena to host Bemidji State this weekend. Game time is 7:07 p.m. CT Friday and 4:07 p.m. CT Saturday. Minnesota is pleased to hold a Gold Out on Saturday afternoon as all fans in attendance will receive a gold t-shirt courtesy of the Unlimited Dance Marathon.
