Cameranesi Named WCHA Rookie of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS - Freshman forward Dani Cameranesi has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Rookie of the Week after recording three points in the Gopher women's hockey team's 6-0 win and 2-2 overtime tie against Ohio State last weekend.
Cameranesi scored two goals and had one assist in Minnesota's 6-0 win over the Buckeyes last Friday. She was +3 for the game with two goals on six shots. The Plymouth, Minn., native scored her first goal of the game at 7:09 of the first period to put the Gophers up 2-0, assisted on teammate Hannah Brandt's hat trick goal at 3:01 of the second period and scored her second tally of the game at 11:40 of the second.
Cameranesi has played in all 22 games for two-time defending national champion Minnesota. She currently leads WCHA rookies in scoring with 20 points (12g-8a). She is also second nationally in total points by a rookie and fifth with 0.91 points per game among rookies.
This week's honor marks Cameranesi's third WCHA Rookie of the Week award this season. She also was named the league's preseason Rookie of the Year in September.
Cameranesi and the Gophers host Minnesota State in the 2014 Hockey City Classic at TCF Bank Stadium this Friday. Puck drop is set for 4:30 p.m. CT. The series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday in Mankato, Minn.
