This past weekend, Sarah Davis and Kelly Terry represented the University of Minnesota in the 2013 Meco Cup in Germany as they suited up for the Canadian U-22/Development Team and won the gold medal game. Fellow Gopher teammates, Mira Jalosuo and Noora Räty also played with their native country, Finland, and finished third in the tournament.
Davis and Terry, who are both junior forwards, helped guide the Canadian club to a spotless 4-0 record over the five-day tournament. Both played a vital role on Team Canada as Terry recorded three assists during the Meco Cup, while Davis notched one goal and one assist.
The two Gophers helped Canada reclaim the Meco Cup crown by defeating Russia, 8-3, in the gold medal game after settling for third place last year.
Jalosuo, a senior defenseman, and Räty, a senior goaltender played huge roles in garnering a bronze medal with the Finnish National Team. Räty played two games in net for the Fins and went 1-1 with her lone loss coming to Canada. Jalsouo was a solid blueliner for the tournament and showed her offensive talent in the consolation match when she netted two goals.
Finland defeated Germany, 6-3, in the bronze medal game.
The four Gophers will be honored before the start of Minnesota’s game on Friday night against North Dakota. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m., and tickets are just $4 if you purchase them in advance using the promo code “LETSGOGOPHERS”.
