Nations Cup Schedule

MINNEAPOLIS – Four players with Golden Gopher ties are set to compete at the 2018 Nations Cup in Fussen, Germany, this week. The six-team tournament features Canada, Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland this year for four days of competition, this Wednesday through Saturday.

University of Minnesota sophomore Lindsay Agnew and freshman Amy Potomak are representing Canada's National Women's Development Team while Gopher alumnae Mira Jalosuo and Noora Raty are representing Finland.

Agnew is one of five returners from Canada's silver-medal winning team at the 2017 Nations Cup on this year's roster, which includes two goaltenders, seven defense, and 12 forwards. Potomak is one of four players on the roster who earned silver at the 2017 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship as well.

Jalosuo and Raty begin the Nations Cup as defending champions with Finland. Last year, the duo led Finland to gold behind a 1-0 win over Canada's National Women's Development Team. Raty earned a 27-save shutout to lead Finland to gold.

The Nations Cup has previously been held under the names Air Canada Cup, MLP Cup, and Meco Cup.

Competition begins with Canada and Finland facing off at 8 a.m. CT Wednesday followed by Sweden and Germany meeting in game two. Preliminary round games continue Thursday and Friday before the medal round on Saturday.

Canada has won gold 11 times at the Nations Cup (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016), but Finland most recently took home gold in 2017.
