Final Stats | Frost Post-Game

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Sophomore Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and juniors Rachael Bona (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Meghan Lorence (Mounds View, Minn.) combined for nine points as the No. 1 Golden Gopher women's hockey team secured a non-conference sweep on the road at Yale with a 4-1 win Sunday afternoon.

Brandt, Bona and Lorence each recorded three points on one goal and two assists to lead Minnesota. Freshman Megan Wolfe (Eagan, Minn.) added her third career goal as well.

"Overall, it was a great weekend to come out here," head coach Brad Frost said. "It was a great trip against a good opponent, and it's nice to be heading back to Minneapolis with two wins."

Similar to Saturday's 5-1 victory, the Gophers took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Wolfe converted on a power-play goal at the 3:22 mark on assists from Bona and senior Sarah Davis (Paradise, N.L.) before Bona buried a loose puck out front for her eighth goal of the season at 15:24. Brandt capped the first-period scoring with her seventh goal of the season 2:27 later.

"We challenged our kids to be really good in the first period and come out strong since over the last couple game twos, we haven't been overly strong in the first period," Frost said. "We really put an emphasis on that with our players and they responded to the challenge."

Minnesota (15-1-0, 11-1-0 WCHA) extended its lead to 4-0 with its second power-play goal of the game when Lorence scored off a feed from sophomore Milica McMillen and Brandt at 3:58 of the second period. However, Yale (2-7-1, 2-3-1 ECAC Hockey) responded with a goal by Janelle Ferrara less than 60 seconds later.

The teams skated to a scoreless third period. The Gophers finished 2-for-3 on the power-play, and the Bulldogs were 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Minnesota outshot Yale, 52-18, in Sunday's game for a series total of 109-38 after holding a 57-20 advantage in Saturday's 5-1 win. Sophomore Amanda Leveille (Kingston, Ont.) finished with 17 saves for the Gophers, while Jaimie Leonoff made 48 stops in the Yale loss.

Minnesota extended its road-game winning streak to 37 games, a stretch that dates back to Jan. 14, 2014. In addition, the Gophers have not lost a non-conference game since falling to Boston College, 4-1, in the 2011 NCAA Regional.

The Gophers return to Ridder Arena for another non-conference series when they host Princeton next weekend. Puck drop is at 4:07 p.m. Saturday, followed by a 1:07 p.m. faceoff on Sunday. The series marks Minnesota's last home series of the first half of the season; the Gophers will return to action at Ridder Arena Jan. 10-11, 2014.

Minnesota is pleased to host Skate with the Gophers following Saturday's game. Saturday is also Thankful For Hockey Day. All fans wearing a hockey jersey will receive a $4 general admission ticket.
