Olympic Hopefuls Update: Jan. 16

Six Gophers have been named to Team USA for the 2018 Olympic Games and two alumnae are expected to represent Finland

2017-18: Began the season centralized with Canada’s National Women’s Team in preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games before being released from the team in mid-November • appeared in three games during the 2017-18 Icebreaker Tournament, three games in the Series vs. the U.S., two exhibition games, and one game at the 2017 Four Nations Cup, where she earned silver with Canada's National Women's Team • recorded a team-high four points (2g-2a) to lead Canada’s National Women’s Development Team to a fifth-place finish at the Nations Cup • enrolled at the University of Minnesota and joined the Gophers in January 2018 but did not compete.

High School/Club: A 2016 graduate of George Elliot Secondary school • spent the 2016-17 season with the Pacific Steelers of the Junior Women’s Hockey League under coaches Jeff Eaton and Dayna Birch • recorded 38 points (20g-18a) in 25 games during the 2016-17 season • played for the Pursuit of Excellence from 2013-2016 • tied for third in CSSHL scoring in 2015-16 • earned silver with Pursuit of Excellence at the 2014 World Sport School Challenge and was named to the tournament all-star team after taking home bronze in 2013 • skated with Canada’s National Women’s Team and Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team • two-time silver medalist with Canada at the 2017 and 2016 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championships • member of Canada’s National Women’s Team in the two-game series against the United States in December 2016 • attended Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival in September 2016 and Strength and Conditioning Camps in May 2016 and May 2015 • competed in Under-18 Three-Game Series between the U.S. and Canada in August 2015 and August 2016 • played for Team British Columbia from 2013 to 2016 • captained British Columbia to a bronze medal at the 2016 National Women’s Under-18 Championship and was named tournament MVP • named tournament MVP at 2015 National Women’s Under-18 Championship, helping British Columbia to a fourth-place finish.

Personal: Born June 25, 1999 • daughter of Steve and Jane Potomak • has five siblings, Mark, Matt, Devin, Brandon, and Sarah • intends to study Kinesiology • shoots right • a high honor student who was named to the Principles List and was a gold cord recipient.
