Team USA didn’t let Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Canada carry over to Friday’s game against Finland, as the Americans routed the Finnish National Team, 15-1, to earn a rematch with Canada in the Four Nations Cup Championship.
Junior Amanda Kessel was the top scoring Gopher by netting one goal and dishing out three assists. Kessel’s first point was an assist in Team USA’s seven goal first period. She connected with Megan Bozek and Anne Schleper on two goals in the second period to assist Wisconsin’s Brianna Decker in recording a hat trick. In the third, she tallied her first goal of the tournament three minutes in.
Bozek also tallied her first goal of the tournament in third period. Sarah Erickson was credited with the assist, which was her second after she recorded the other in the first period.
All five Gophers posted a postive plus/minus ratio with freshman Milica McMillen recorded the highest number with a +4.
Gopher seniors Noora Räty and Mira Jalosuo were not invited to participate on the Finnish Women's National Team.
The USWNT closes out the 2012 Four Nations Cup tomorrow in a rematch against Canada. They hope to avenge a 3-1 loss that they suffered two days ago to repeat as tournament champions.
