MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team will once again open its regular season ranked among the nation's Top 25 programs in the GymInfo Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Golden Gophers are ranked No. 23 in the poll, marking the fourth consecutive season that Minnesota will open among the Top 25. Overall, the Gophers have debuted in the Top 25 for 13 of 15 years that GymInfo has published a preseason poll.
Minnesota's 2013 schedule will once again be challenging. It includes meets against eight opponents ranked among the top 18 teams in the poll. The Gophers will open their regular season with a home meet against 17th-ranked Washington, and also have home dates with No. 12 Arkansas and four ranked Big Ten teams. Minnesota also will travel to third-ranked Florida for a dual meet.
The Gophers are among six Big Ten programs ranked in the Top 25. Defending champion Nebraska heads the list at No. 7, while Michigan (10th), Ohio State (14th), Penn State (16th), and Illinois (18th) are all ranked ahead of the Gophers despite Minnesota's third-place finish at last year's Big Ten Championships.
Minnesota's dual meet with Washington will take place Jan. 12 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Pavilion. The Gophers also have their annual Intrasquad Meet set for Jan. 5 at 6:00 p.m. For ticket information regarding any of the Gophers' home meets this year, please visit www.mygophersports.com.
