MINNEAPOLIS (Gopher Sports) - The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics program announced the commitment of two gymnasts on Monday afternoon. Rachel Cutler and Selena Ung signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Golden Gophers for the 2015-16 competitive season.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Rachel and Selena to the Golden Gopher family," said interim head coach Jenny Hansen. "They are both fantastic students and have waited anxiously to make their commitments official. With the success they have experienced in their respective club programs thus far, we believe they have potential to be all-around competitors right away."

Grand Rapids, Mich. native and Northview High School senior Rachel Cutler trains with the Twistars USA Gymnastics Club in Lansing, Mich. Cutler is a two-time Region 5 All-Around Champion, four-time National Junior Olympics Qualifier and a three-time Michigan State Bar Champion. She will reunite with former teammates and current Golden Gophers, Rachel Haines and Bailey Gardner, when she arrives on campus next fall.

Local gymnast and Oakdale, Minn. native, Selena Ung will join the Maroon and Gold after she graduates from Tartan High School this spring. Ung trains at Flips Gymnastics in White Bear Lake, Minn. and is coached by former Gopher gymnast Lori Kindler Roskoski. She has earned state championship medals on vault in 2013 and uneven parallel bars in 2014 while earning second place in the all-around competition and finishing third in floor exercise. In 2013, Ung earned a first place finish on floor and second all-around at Regionals. Ung is a two-time Junior Olympics National Qualifier and finished seventh on beam last year at the Junior Olympics National Championships.

Both Cutler and Ung will arrive on campus in the fall of 2015.

The 2014-15 Minnesota women's gymnastics team will kick of the 2015 season with their annual Intrasquad Meet to be held on Jan. 3 at 4 p.m. in the Sports Pavilion.
