The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team will host a "Meet the Team" event on Saturday, November 5 in Peik Gymnasium. The event begins at noon and will feature new faces and new routines for the 2012 season.
The Golden Gophers return 10 gymnasts from last year's squad that finished the season ranked 22nd. Sophomore Kayla Slechta returns as the lone Gopher to reach the NCAA meet last season as she qualified in the all-around competition.
The Maroon and Gold, who have qualified for 18-straight NCAA regionals, add three freshmen into the mix this year: Jenny Covers, Kylie Schermann and Cierra Tomson. All three are expected to make immediate impacts this coming spring.
Minnesota will be short one newcomer for much of the season as sophomore Justine Cherwink suffered a lower extremity injury earlier this week. She has undergone surgery and is currently rehabbing for a possible return at the end of the season.
The Golden Gophers will host five regular-season home dual meets at the Sports Pavilion during the season, plus the annual Always Dreaming Best of Minnesota Meet.
