Sept. 5, 2013
This is the third in a series of five question and answer sessions with the freshmen from the Golden Gopher women's gymnastics team. Today, the spotlight is on Bailey Abernathy, a newcomer from Denver, Colo. Abernathy joins the Gophers after training at the Colorado Gymnastics Institute. Prior to joining the Gophers, she was a two-time Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament qualifier and she competed at the Region 3 Meet three times.
Gopher Sports: What is your favorite event?
Bailey Abernathy: My favorite event is floor, mostly because you can be powerful and still have a great performance and interact with the crowd a little more than in the other events.
GS: How did you decide Minnesota was the right place for your college career?
BA: I really loved the family feel here--just the way the team interacted with the coaches (made it feel) like home, even though this is out of state for me. It just felt like the right place for me to be.
GS: When you think about your first meet this winter at the Sports Pavilion, what are you most excited about?
BA: I'm excited to just be wearing the Maroon and Gold and to be representing this awesome university and for hearing the crowd get super excited and pumped up for us to be doing what we love.
