Don't Make Us Cry
Seniors Abby DeMuse, Ciara Gardner, Hannah Hitchcock and Rachel Rowland will all be honored at Saturday’s meet. The four have been part of some memorable moments including a Big Ten Championship and a trip to the NCAA Championships.
DeMuse competed on all four events for the Gophers in her career but has been plagued by injuries the past few years. She has hit 9.875 on vault, bars and floor in her career and has a career high 39.250 all-around score. She has won one event title and has been an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
After graduation DeMuse will be immediately occupied with planning a wedding. She then is going to look at getting into coaching and will work at retail in Minnesota.
Hitchcock and Rowland are known by teammates as the pals after becoming best friends on a recruiting visit. Hitchcock has career highs of 9.850 on vault and 9.875 on uneven bars. Rowland has been a mainstay in the Gophers bars lineup and has a career high of 9.825. She is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten Honoree and a three-time NACGC/W Scholastic All-American.
Rowland is going to take two and a half months to travel Europe after graduation. She will also be applying for physician’s assistant school.
Hitchcock plans to be a graduate assistant coach at Minnesota while pursuing her master’s degree. And yes, the pals plan to be living in the same area down the road.
Gardner has had a decorated collegiate career. She was a 2016 and 2017 All-Big Ten Second Team honoree and was named the 2017 Minnesota Most Valuable Performer. She has won four event titles in her career with career highs of 9.925 on floor and 9.9000 on beam. She also has a career high 39.400 on all-around.
