10th Ranked Minnesota Heads to Michigan State for Friday Dual Meet
The Top 10.0 Things You Need to Know...
1.0 - Fresh off its win against top-ranked Michigan, the Minnesota women's gymnastics team (7-0, 2-0 Big Ten) returns to the road for a dual meet at Michigan State (0-3, 0-2) on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. CT.
2.0 - The Gophers are 10th in this week's GymInfo Top 25 Rankings after winning a quad meet on Saturday versus No. 1 Michigan, No. 20 Central Michigan and Iowa State with a team total of 196.800 points. It's the first time Minnesota has been among the Top 10 in the GymInfo poll since being ranked fifth on Jan. 14, 2002.
3.0 - Freshman Lindsay Mable won the all-around at her second straight quad meet with a total of 39.450 points, and captured titles on beam (9.900) and floor (9.925). Mable was named this week's Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second straight week.
4.0 - Junior Kayla Slechta is ranked first nationally on vault with an average score of 9.942 through the first three meets. Slechta just missed a perfect score on vault against Washington on Jan. 12, receiving a 10.0 from the head judge, but getting a 9.900 from the second judge for a score of 9.950. She followed with a 9.925 on vault at Penn State, and had another 9.950 last weekend. In addition, freshman Hanna Nordquist is tied for 16th on balance beam (9.850).
5.0 - Slechta's 9.950 vault scores are her career-bests, and are tied for third in program history. Carolyn Yernberg and Courtney Norman each recorded perfect 10.0's on the same day at UCLA on March 3, 2002, while Yernberg also scored a 9.950 at Arizona State on March 12, 2004.
6.0 - Sophomore Jenny Covers had career-best scores on all four events at PSU to finish with a personal-best total of 39.250 and capture second in the all-around behind Mable. Covers followed that with an all-around total of 39.175, which included a 9.900 on vault versus Michigan.
7.0 - The Gophers (7-0) are off to their best start since the 2006 team opened that season with a record of 5-1. That team won three dual meets before finishing second at the University of New Hampshire's Fox Run Invitational
8.0 - As a team, Minnesota is ranked fourth nationally on vault with an average total of 49.275, and is fifth nationally on floor exercise (49.233). The Gophers are 14th on beam (48.817) and are tied for 29th on bars (48.633).
9.0 - Dating back to last season, Minnesota has scored 49.000 or better on floor exercise in 12 consecutive meets and on vault for the past 11 meets.
10.0 - Minnesota's team total of 196.800 ranks fourth all-time and was its best since recording a school-record total of 197.700 points at Arizona State on March 12, 2004.
