IOWA CITY, IOWA - No. 12 Minnesota scored a 195.550 on the road at Iowa Friday evening, but the Gophers came up just short of the Hawkeyes' team total of 195.725 to drop their first meet of the 2013 season.
Minnesota (12-1, 4-1 Big Ten) fell behind by .525 after the first rotation and battled their way back by scoring higher totals than Iowa in the second and third rotations, but the Hawkeyes finished with the highest total of the night (49.225) on floor to secure the win.
The Gophers had their best rotation of the night on floor, where all six gymnasts had scores of 9.800 or better to score a 49.175, led by freshman Lindsay Mable's second-place score of 9.875 and a 9.850 by senior captain Janell Campbell.
Mable won the balance beam with a 9.850, tied for second on vault with a 9.875, tied for third on bars with a 9.800, and won the all-around title at her fourth meet this season by scoring 39.400 points. Her all-around total is her second-highest this season.
Sophomore Jenny Covers tied Mable's 9.875 on vault, while senior Shannon Golich (9.825) and sophomore Kylie Schermann (9.800) took second and third, respectively, on balance beam.
Minnesota continues its road trip with a 2:00 p.m. meet on Sunday afternoon at Iowa State. Minnesota's meet at Iowa will air on the Big Ten Network on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
