The Minnesota women’s golf program announced today the signing of Mary Narzisi and Samantha Sommers to National Letters of Intent. Narzisi and Sommers will be eligible to play for the Golden Gophers beginning in the Fall of 2007.
Narzisi, a native of Omaha, Neb., is the two-time defending Nebraska State individual champion and has led her Marian High School team to state titles in 2005 and 2006. Narzisi was the runner-up at the Nebraska Junior Girls Match Play after qualifying as the stroke play medalist. She finished ninth at the Trusted Choice Big I Tournament and was 13th at the AJGA event in Long Grove, Ill.
“Mary’s competitive resume and experience in junior golf makes her a great addition to the program,” head coach Katie Hanneman said. “She has impressive length that will help her grow her game at the collegiate level.”
Sommers, a native of St. Cloud, Minn., won two Minnesota state individual
championships in 2005 and 2006. Somers has participated in the state tournament the past five seasons. The past two seasons, Sommers was selected to play in the Minnesota/Manitoba Cup Matches. In addition, she placed fourth at the Optimist International Tournament in Florida in 2005 and earned two club championships in 2003 and 2004 at the St. Cloud Country Club and Wapicada Golf Club.
“Samantha is one of the best junior players in the state of Minnesota and she’s a player that will help us continue to grow our program,” Hanneman said. “She’s proven she can win at the highest levels of junior and high school golf in this state and we believe that will translate to the collegiate level.”
