Women's Golf Tied for Sixth After One Round of Badger Invitational

GThe University of Minnesota women's golf team is tied for sixth after one round of the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis. After play was suspended yesterday due to inclement weather on Friday, the Golden Gophers finished their first round on Saturday shooting a 323. Minnesota is tied with Illinois,20 shots behind tournament leader Michigan State. Rain again suspended play in the second round and the tournament has been shortened to 36 holes at the 6,025-yard, par 72 University Ridge Golf Course.

Individually, junior Terra Petsinger (Arvilla, N.D./Latimore) shot a 5-over 77 in round one to tie for sixth place. Sophomore Sarah Butler (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) is tied for 15th place after firing a 7-over 79 and senior Katie Jacobson (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River) shot a 10-over 82 and is tied for 24th. Also for the Gophers, freshman Sophie Stubbs (Telford, England/Idsall School) playing in her first collegiate tournament carded an 85 (T-31st) and sophomore Jessica Thomas (Esko, Minn./Esko) shot an 87 (T-38th).

The second round was started on Saturday and will be finished, weather permitting, on Sunday. The Gophers host the Minnesota Invitational next weekend at the Les Bolstad University Golf Course. Play begins on Sat., Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sun., Sept. 21.
