GopherSports.com: What made you decide on playing collegiate golf at the University of Minnesota?
Celia Kuenster: I decide to attend the University of Minnesota to play collegiate golf because of the wonderful opportunity to learn from two great coaches. Coach Redman and Coach Cleary have impressive backgrounds in golf, and I wanted to learn from the best. Also, the university has so many amazing programs as well as great professors.
GS: Tell us a little about yourself outside of golf. What do you like to do when you aren't on the course?
CKL Outside of golf, I love being able to relax with friends and family. Some of my favorite activities to do outside of golf are to play soccer and basketball with my friends. I also love spending time at my cabin and being on the lake all day.
GS: What are you most looking forward to about college?
CK: I am most looking forward to meeting new people in college and finding my independence. I am also excited to meet the other student-athletes at Minnesota.
GS: When did you start playing golf?
CK: I started playing golf when I was seven years old. My brothers and I would go play at the Mendota Heights Par 3 Course. It was the perfect place to start the game and have lots of fun.
GS: What's your favorite club in your bag and why?
CK: I don’t have a favorite club in my bags. I really enjoy practicing with all my wedges.
GS: What do you feel is the strongest aspect of your golf game?
CK: The strongest aspect of my game is my short game. I feel confident that I can get up and down from anywhere with a wedge in my hand.
GS: What is your favorite sports memory and why?
CK: My favorite sports memory is winning my first Minnesota Women’s State Amateur Championship in 2011. I was so young and broke the record. When the final putt dropped, I felt all my hard work come together.
GS: Who is in your dream foursome?
CK: My dream foursome would be Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer and my coach Brent Snyder.
