Tee Times First Round Leaderboard
Jackie Shepherd is in a tie for third place after one round of the Big Ten Championship. She shot a first-round score of 73 (+1) to be one shot back at the Donald Ross Golf Course in French Lick, Ind.
The round of 73 was Shepherd's best round since the Alamo Classic at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas on October 30th.
As a team, Minnesota is in a tie for ninth with the Wisconsin. The Gophers tallied a score of 318 (+30). Minnesota is 20 shots behind the leaders. Ohio State and Michigan both shot a 298 (+10) as a team. Illinois is in third place, six shots back of the Buckeyes and Spartans.
Banchalee Theinthong had the second-best round for Minnesota. She continued her strong play at the golf course from the Lady Northern event the Gophers played in October, carding a 77 (+5) on Friday to be in tie for 19th.
Freshman Carmen Laguna shot a round of 83 (+11) in her first round. Sarinee Thitiratanakorn tallied a first-round score of 85 (+13). The others scores collected by Minnesota was Taylor Quinn's 86 (+14) and Anna Laorr's 87. (+15).
In the individual competition, Shepherd is one of three competitors a stroke back of a pair of leaders. Nora Lucas, of Ohio State, and Caroline Powers, of Michigan State, each carded an even-par score of 72 in the first round.
Shepherd and the rest of the Gophers will continue their pursuit of a championship on Saturday with round two.
