The University of Minnesota women's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. Despite temperatures hovering around 40 degrees and a steady rain shower, the Gophers shot rounds of 319-317=636 (+60) at the par 72, 5,966-yard University of Michigan Golf Course. The Gophers trail first place Ohio State by 43 shots. The Buckeyes hold the top three spots in the individual standings.
The Gophers were led by sophomore Sophie Stubbs. Stubbs fired the best round of the day for the Maroon and Gold with a 76 in round two. The Telford, England native is tied for 21st at 13-over 157. Sophomore Samantha Braschler is tied for 36th at 16-over 160, one shot ahead of teammate Sarah Butler. Butler, playing with an aircast on her left ankle, is tied for 38th at 17-over 161. Senior Terra Petsinger and freshman Emily Brand are tied for 44th at 164. Brand fired her best round since early March with a 79 in round two. Junior Jessica Thomas is tied for 59th at 172.
Round three is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., Eastern Time barring inclement weather.
