Gophers sit in 12th Place after Two Rounds of the Lady Buckeye Invite

The Gopher women’s golf team is in 12th place after recording scores of 325 and 333 in the first two rounds of the Lady Buckeye Invitational Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

 

Minnesota was led on Saturday by freshman Teresa Puga. She carded an opening round 77, followed that up with an 82 in the afternoon session and is in a tie for 27th place. Fellow freshman Samantha Sommers is in a tie for 30th place after posting scores of 74 and 86. Another freshman, Mary Narsizi, and junior Young Na Lee both carded 19-over 163’s and are in a tie for 41st.

 

Kent State, the highest ranking team in the tournament, leads second place Ohio State by 10 strokes heading into Sunday’s finale. Northwestern is in third place, seven strokes ahead of fourth place Michigan State and 14 strokes over fifth place Wisconsin.

 

Michigan State’s Sara Brown carded a 1-under 143 and holds a one shot lead over Ohio State’s Carling Coffing and a four-shot lead over Kent State’s Kira Meixner for medalist honors.

 

Sunday’s third round is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. at Ohio State University’s Scarlet Course and can be followed on www.golfstat.com.
