Ga.,The University of Minnesota women's golf team totaled a team score of 323 and is in 16th place after the first round of the Liz Murphey Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., on Friday. The Classic continues with 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday on the 6,104-yard, par 72 course.

Defending NCAA champion Georgia owns a four-stroke lead on the 18-team field. The Bulldogs shot a 9-over 297 in the Classic's opening round to lead Florida and Furman, tied for second at 301.

Mississippi State's Anna Gertsson shot a 1-under par 71 to lead the chase for medallist honors. The Golden Gophers are topped by two players tied for 37th-place, as rookie Terra Petsinger and junior Karyn Stordahl, both who carded rounds of 7-over par 79.

Other Gophers competing are Tai Kinney, is tied for 64th at 82, Kirstin Whalen tied for 71st at 83 and Cindy Cannon, tied for 76th at 85.
