NotrThe University of Minnesota women's golf team is tied for fourth after carding a team score of 314 (+26) in the opening round of the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational. The Golden Gophers are tied with Notre Dame, while Penn State leads the field with a 21-over-par 309. The Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational is being held at the par 72, 6,089-yard Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs, Fla.
The Golden Gophers were led by their two seniors during Monday's play. Karyn Stordahl (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) shot a round of 4-over 76 to sit tied for seventh while Kirstin Whalen (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) carded a 78 (+6) to tie for 15th place. Sophomore Terra Petsinger (Arvilla, N.D./Larimore) shot her 15th round of under-80 for the season with a 7-over 79 to tie for 22nd. Freshman Sarah Butler (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) is tied for 39th place with an 81. Junior Katie Jacobson (Grand Forks, N.D./Montana) completed her round with an 10-over 82 to tie for 45th place.
The Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational will conclude tomorrow.
