After the first round of play at the Rio Verde Invitational, the University of Minnesota is alone in third place at 12-pver par (296). Michigan currently leads the tournament at seven-over, five strokes ahead of the Gophers.
Minnesota currently has three players in the top 10 after round one. Leading the way is junior Michele Edlin, who shot an opening round 71. Junior Samantha Sommers opened with a 73 and sits in a tie for sixth place. Junior Teresa Puga is in a tie for ninth with a first round 74. Rounding out the Gopher lineup is junior Mary Narzisi with a 78 and freshman Jackie Shepherd with an 85.
All participants are currently chasing Michigan's Ashley Bauer, who opened with a 68.
Play will continue with the second round on Saturday.
