finThe University of Minnesota women's golf team shot a final round 311 and finished in third place at the East/West Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz. It was the Gophers highest tournament finish under third-year coach Katie Hanneman in which the Gophers were not the host school. Minnesota fired rounds of 307-303-311=921 (+69), two shots behind second place Iowa and 21 behind tournament champ Michigan. Michigan led from wire to wire.

The Gophers placed two golfers in the top 10. Sophomore Sophie Stubbs led the Gophers all tournament and finished in a tie for sixth. Stubbs fired rounds of 73-74-80=227 (+14). Senior Terra Petsinger moved up into a tie for ninth at 15-over 228 after a 76 in the final round. Junior Jessica Thomas tied for 25th at 21-over 234. Freshman Emily Brand finished 28th at 236 after her second consecutive 78. Sophomore Samantha Braschler rebounded from yesterday's 81 and carded a 78 Saturday and tied for 29th a shot behind Brand. Sophomore Lindsay Somrock tied for 86th at 254 (+41).
