Freshman Mary Narzisi and sophomore Christine Herzog each shot 78 and the Minnesota women’s golf team carded a combined score of 315 to close out the opening round of play at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in 17th place.
Alabama and TCU each shot 293 and lead the 18-team field, followed by Florida State and Arkansas in third place at 296.
Stacy Lewis of Arkansas shot a 4-under par 68 and is the individual leader.
Narzisi and Herzog will enter Monday’s second round in a seven-way tie for 62nd place, followed by freshman Teresa Puga, who is tied for 69th after shooting 79 in her collegiate debut.
Other Gophers in action at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic include freshman Samantha Sommers, who is tied for 81st after her opening-round 80, and junior Paige Broman, who is tied for 84th at 81.
The second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic gets under way on Monday morning at 7 a.m. (CST) at the par 72, 6,000-yard Coco Beach Golf and Country Club in San Juan, P.R.
