The University of Minnesota women's golf team is in 16th place after one round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Mar, P.R. The Gophers shot a first round 320 and trail tournament leader Oklahoma State by 32 shots after 18 holes.
Individually, the Gophers were led by sophomore Young Na Lee. Lee carded three straight birdies on the front nine and fired a 4-over 76, good for a tie for 35th. Junior Kelli Berns and freshman Christine Herzog each shot a 79 to tie for 59th. Sophomore Anne Martin carded an 86 and junior Emily Brand an 88 in round one. Freshman Leslie Grabeman, playing as an individual, carded an 83.
The second round is tomorrow at the par 72, 6,168-yard Coco Beach Resort Course.
